Grossman to speak at Rotary Club

Airport traffic numbers continue to climb at RSW

During June, 478,692 passengers traveled through Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW), an increase of 1.2 percent compared to June 2013. Year-to-date, passenger traffic is up 3.5 percent from the same period last year.

The traffic leader in June was Delta with 115,919 passengers traveling to and from Fort Myers. Rounding out the top five airlines were Southwest (81,846), JetBlue (53,193), American (47,274) and US Airways (42,821).

Southwest Florida International Airport had 4,669 aircraft movements (takeoffs and landings), a decrease of 8.1 percent compared to June 2013. Page Field saw 6,850 movements, a 24.3 percent increase from June 2013. In addition, 2.3 million pounds of air freight moved through Southwest Florida International Airport in June 2014, an increase of 2 percent compared to June 2013.

Wisteria Tea Room

celebrating anniversary

On July 20, the Wisteria Tea Room celebrated its three-year anniversary. The festivities run through July 26. The week-long event will have a grand prize drawing, fun games involving yummy homemade scones and plenty of gift cards.

Wisteria Tea Room serves a wide variety of teas, decadent scones, light breakfast and lunch items such as soup, salads and sandwiches, all while enjoying the feeling of sitting in a vintage, cozy setting. The quaint tea place is the creation of Bobbie and Phil Schwartz.

Mummert earns top honors

at the LSU Graduate School of Banking

Tom Ray, CEO of Encore Bank, has announced that Catherine Mummert, vice president credit analyst, has received a certificate for academic excellence from the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University. The honor has been earned by only 104 students out of the more than 15,000 that have graduated from the school throughout its 65-year history. Mummert was among 190 bankers who graduated on June 6, 2014.

The Graduate School of Banking at LSU is a three-year program that provides courses covering all aspects of banking, economics and related subjects. Students traveled from 20 states and Mexico to participate in this session.

Larue Pest Management pair

named certified horticulture professionals

Fort Myers lawn care company, Larue Pest Management, has announced two of its team members have recently become FNGLA (Florida Nursery Growers and Landscaping Association) Certified Horticulture Professionals. This certification program is the industry's standard for measuring horticulture knowledge on everything from plant and pest identification to landscape management. Both Abby Farmer and Mike Cruise of Larue Pest completed their certification in early July.

The Certified Horticulture Professional program has been in existence since 1984, with more than 1,700 certified professionals in Florida, the southeast and the Bahamas.

According to the FNGLA, this certification program promotes professionalism among horticulture professionals, including nursery, greenhouse, landscape, and retail garden center employees.
