FORT MYERS FGCU women's basketball assistant coach Chelsea Lyles will assume the duties as the team's recruiting coordinator, Eagles head coach Karl Smesko announced Thursday.
Lyles took over the responsibilities of recruiting coordinator after Abby Scharlow resigned in April. In that time, Lyles has made tremendous strides to recruit top-level athletes for the Green and Blue.
"Chelsea was doing a great job as our interim recruiting coordinator," ex-plained Smesko. "She earned the job and is now our official recruiting coordinator. She has worked hard to develop relationships with coaches and potential student-athletes. She understands our re-cruiting needs and is a very good evaluator of talent. We are fortunate to have someone with Chelsea's talents on staff."
Since Lyles joining the coaching staff in 2011, the Eagles have produced a record of 82-18 with three regular season conference championships and two NCAA Tournament appearances. With Lyles on the sideline, the team has won 53 Atlantic Sun games with just one loss and has captured the conference tournament crown twice.
"I can't thank Coach Smesko enough for this opportunity," said Lyles. "I am excited to help the team grow in a new way and I'm looking forward to continuing the strong tradition of success this program has had."
As an athlete, Lyles was FGCU's first two-time At-lantic Sun All-Conference First Team selection and also served as an integral part of the women's volleyball team for one season.
