Doherty Enterprises Inc., one of the largest casual dining restaurant franchisees in the United States, is bringing its new community-themed concept to the Cape Coral Applebee's. Located at 2228 Del Prado Blvd., the restaurant unveiled its new warm and welcoming atmosphere Wednesday after undergoing renovations and being closed for construction, Sunday, June 22, through Tuesday.

Themed "local community," the new look of Applebee's highlights education, non-profit organizations and first responders within the Cape Coral community. The wall decor consists of photos from local professional and college sports teams, community groups and schools, including Cape Coral High School, Ida S. Baker High School and Mariner High School.

The 5,018-square-foot restaurant can host up to 167 guests, who will enjoy the comfort of a large dining area with new booths and lighting. Among these new features are several TV screens throughout the restaurant, ranging from 42 inches to 70 inches in size.

New elements to the exterior include fresh paint, awnings and signage, along with a renovated entrance featuring new stone work and a trellis. As part of the remodel plan, staff underwent retraining to ensure that guests are greeted with familiar faces.

"We have been renovating, remodeling and creating an overall community atmosphere at Applebee's locations statewide since January, and are excited to continue the theme's roll-out in Cape Coral," said David DiBartolo, vice president of operations at Doherty Enterprises Inc. "Cape Coral's community is rich in outstanding organizations and local schools, and we look forward to celebrating their achievements and welcoming them to the Applebee's family."

Applebee's is also welcoming guests to come back and enjoy great new menu items and specials, including half-off appetizers available every night from 10 p.m. until close, as well as Sunday Family Day, with all kids meals available for $1.99.

Doherty Enterprises is committed to being involved in the community, giving back to neighbors and supporting education. Each Doherty restaurant stays engaged in its neighborhood and, through donations, fundraisers and sponsorships helps local organizations grow and flourish. In 2013, Doherty restaurant employees enthusiastically volunteered more than 2,000 hours of their time to participate in more than 1,500 community activities, events and projects. Doherty restaurants are dedicated partners and have helped their communities raise over $1.5 million in financial contributions to local causes.

One way that Doherty supports education in the community is through the "A is for Applebee's" program, which was created for teachers, libraries and scout leaders to use as an incentive for children to succeed and be rewarded. The program gives children an incentive to go the extra mile to help other students, read more books and make the Honor Roll. By obtaining the certificate, children gain a sense of accomplishment.
