Donna Mae McClain, 83, of Port Charlotte and formerly of North Fort Myers and Cape Coral, passed away after a lengthy illness Monday, June 2, 2014, at Page Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fort Myers.
She was born on Nov. 4, 1930, in Royal Oak, Mich., the beautiful daughter of Ila Mae (Durham) and Walter Leonard. After a happy childhood and life as a young adult, she married the love of her life, Charles R. McClain, or simply "Chuck" as he is called by friends, and together they raised three wonderful children.
She lived in Springfield, Ohio for 16 years where she received her associates degree in nursing. She and the family then lived in Lima, Ohio, where she worked as a registered nurse in the psychiatric unit and the forensics department at the Lima Correctional Facility. She worked as an RN for over 30 years until her retirement in 2002. One of her proudest accomplishments was assisting with establishment of the Lima Rape Crisis and Counseling Center. She was a devoted Christian and longtime participant in the choir at First Lutheran Church in Springfield, Ohio. She also loved ballroom dancing and throughout her adult life rarely missed an opportunity to listen to good entertainment and kick up her heels. Most importantly, however, she loved the job of being a parent and was the best mother any child could ever be blessed with.
