Betty Colleen Sayers Thompson, 85, of Huntersville, N.C., formerly of Cape Coral, passed away peacefully on Thursday May 22, 2014. She was born on a farm in Missouri near Rocky Comfort Aug. 20, 1928, to James and Mildred MacGuire McNeill.

She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and loved by everyone who met her. She always greeted you with a warm smile, a twinkle in her eye and loved a great laugh. She enjoyed golf, music, dancing and reading.

Mrs. Thompson was the first president of the Southwest Florida Junior Golf Association, and served in other board positions over many years. She is also past president of the Toastmistress Club. She was a member of Grace Methodist Church, volunteering for Martha's Circle; was a Stephen Minister; and volunteered at the Cape Coral Caring Center. She was a real estate broker with Staffile and Haywood for many years.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Thompson; brother, Orlyn McNeill; sister, Geralda Harbaugh.

Sheleaves to cherish her memory her loving family, sons, Stanley Sayers, Stephen (Catherine) Sayers, Scott Sayers, Richard (Gail Ruth Peckham) Sayers, Jr., and Thomas (Kathryn) Sayers; daughters, Marianne Sayers and Suzanne (Ken) Chelcun; grandchildren, Julia, Brianne, Mitchell, Elena, Luke, Dane, Nash, Colene and Adam; sister, Martha Harper; and several nieces and nephews.

The family received friends Monday, May 26, at the Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home in Huntersville, N.C., followed by a funeral in the chapel of the funeral home. Interment followed at Mt. Zion Community Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc. ( 225 N. Michigan Ave. FL 17, Chicago, IL 60601 or Palliative Care Center & Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Rd. Newton, NC 28658.

Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home and Cremation Services is assisting the family.
