Atlantic Sun Pitcher of the Year Michael Murray recorded his 13th victory of the season Wednesday night in leading FGCU's 5-3 win over North Florida in the first round of the conference baseball championship at FGCU.
The sophomore hurler allowed three earned runs through 6 1/3 innings as the top-seeded Eagles rolled into Thursday's second round where they faced 4th-seeded Lipscomb.
Cape Coral's Nick Rivera drove in two runs for the Eagles, including the tournament's second homer of the day with a solo shot in the seventh inning.
The Eagles built an early lead with three runs in the third inning as Michael Suchy singled to score Alex Diaz and a bases-loaded walk brought home Jake Noll. A sacrifice fly by Cody Hoffner capped the scoring in the third inning.
Colton Bottomley's single in the bottom of the fourth made the score 4-2 before North Florida got its final run on a fielder's choice. Rivera's homer in the seventh produced the final run as the Eagles notched their 37th win of the season.
Murray's 13th win of the season extends FGCU's single-season record for victories, while he sits tied for eighth-most in A-Sun history.
Second-seeded Mercer was the first team eliminated with a 7-1 loss Thursday to East Tennessee State.
Tournament play continues Friday, Saturday and Sunday at FGCU.
