Mariner High School football coach James Hale was able to find positives in Friday night's 34-0 loss to Golden Gate in the Tritons' spring game.

The Titans led 27-0 at the half.

"Last year in the second half they'd go up and down the field on us," Hale said. "We played better after being down big in the first half. We actually saw some hitting tonight. We hit some people. We chased the football."

Mariner senior-to-be Jonathan Ghigliotty (2) looks to finish off a tackle made by a pair of teammates during the Tritons' spring game against Golden Gate Friday night.

Golden Gate quarterback Jorquel Condominia completed 7-of-8 passes in the first half for 111 yards and three touchdowns, including a 54-yarder to Patrick Volcy. Condominia wound up with four TD passes and 136 yards. Nolan Lynch caught two TD passes and John Dorilius also had a touchdown catch.

Golden Gate also scored on a 42-yard interception return by Carlos Garcia of a Dustin Culver pass.

The Titans had 118 yards on the ground in the first half and totaled 13 first downs by intermission. Brennan Williams led Mariner with 60 yards on the ground Friday, including runs of 18, 15 and 10 yards.

Culver and Cairo Juenegens split the quarterback duties for the Tritons, each playing a half.

"I thought our offensive line would play better. I was kind of disappointed," Hale said. "We just couldn't handle their nose guard or tackle and that big defensive end. We only ran three offensive plays. Honestly, if we had run more we still couldn't handle that defensive line."

Golden Gate coach Mike DiGrigoli said his veteran defensive line recognized a lot of what the Tritons were trying to do offensively.

"We changed the scheme a little bit this year and went to a three-man front," DiGrigoli said. "We have some pretty talented guys up front."

The Triton defense forced six turnovers. Donny Lascola and Derek Juenegens intercepted passes from backup Golden Gate quarterback Shem Julmiste. Derek Juenegens also recovered one of four fumbles.

"We just need to get the right people out there," Hale said. "It's a building process. It's going to take time."
