Mckenzie Corbitt and Katelyn Kelly contributed two hits apiece Wednesday night to help boost North Fort Myers to a 3-1 victory at Barron Collier to advance in the Region 6A-3 playoffs.
The quarterfinal round victory sends the Red Knights (21-5) to Tuesday's Region 6A-3 semifinals at Venice, which edged Naples 6-5 on Wednesday.
Corbitt led ovv the sixth inning with a single ahead of Kelly's single, putting runners at first and second. Sarah Waitekus beat out a ground ball to second to load the bases. Alynn Kayatta fouled out for the first out, but a walk to Summer Ackerson broke the scoreless tie. Kaylee Morgan singled to left to give North a 2-0 lead heading to the seventh inning.
Kelly's one-out single in the seventh set the stage for the Knights' insurance run. After a sacrifice bunt, Waitekus reached on a throwing error that produced the third run.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Cougars got a one-out single and put a second runner aboard on an error. A walk loaded the bases and a second walk forced in a run with on out. However, a lineout to shortstop turned into a double play at third base.
Mackenzie Peterson (15-4) allowed three hits, struck out three and induced 10 fly ball outs to earn the victory.
