Paul Gates Braas, 78, of Fort Myers resident since 2000, formerly of Marietta, Ga., passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2014, in Cape Coral. He was born Nov. 3, 1935, in Niagara Falls, N.Y., to Paul and Mabel Braas, now deceased.

He was a graduate of Bishop Duffy High School '53 and The University of Buffalo '57. His career spanned many years as a sales engineer for The Carborundum Company where he excelled in selling ceramic products to the pulp and paper industry throughout North America.

His many interests include reading, playing ridge, traveling with his family, cooking, golfing and attending Faith Presbyterian Church. He took great joy in being an active part in the lives of his grandchildren. His engaging personality endeared him to all he met. His genuine kindness and concern for others made him a joy to know.

He is survived by his significant other, Wanda Lea Corbett of Cape Coral; his three children, Ann Macgregor of Naples, Fla., Tanis Plyler of Lighthouse Point, Fla., and Paul Braas Jr. of Marietta, Ga.; two sisters, Patricia Irish (Roderick) of Lewiston, N.Y., and Virginia Ziefang (Bernard) of Pittsford, N.Y.; one brother, Richard Braas of Niagara Falls, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Andrew Plyler and fiance Julie Mann of Charlottesville, Va., Sgt. Christopher Plyler (Jessica) of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Charlotte Plyler of Lighthouse Point, Fla.; one great grandchild, Aynslee Plyler; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his much beloved wife of 44 years, Tanis Pedlow Braas, in 2001, and his sister, Marilyn Carr (John).

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 26, at Faith Presbyterian Church, 4544 Coronado Parkway, Cape Coral, with Dr. H. Timothy Halverson officiating. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the Italian American Club, 4725 Vincennes Blvd. Cape Coral.

Memorial contributions in memory of Paul G. Braas may be made to the Faith Presbyterian Building Fund, 4544 Coronado Parkway, Cape Coral, FL 33904, or Hope Hospice, 9470 HealthPark Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908.
