Beaches of Fort Myers

& Sanibel win platinum honor, other awards

The Lee County Visitor & Convention Bureau recently received several Adrian Awards, including the coveted platinum award last night. The Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International honored the VCB's accomplishments at an awards gala at the New York Marriott Marquis.

The annual competition hosted by HSMAI professionals from all segments of travel, hospitality and tourism drew nearly 1,200 entries from around the world.

Winners were recognized at the largest and most prestigious travel marketing competition in the world. The VCB, in partnership with its agency, MMGY Global, earned a platinum award in public relations, a gold award for social media, a gold for digital marketing and a silver award for advertising.

The Beaches of Fort Myers & Sanibel earned the platinum honor for generating coverage of the USS Mohawk. Last year, the sinking of the USS Mohawk CGC battleship created national awareness of the destination and its dive offerings.

The VCB worked with Reefmakers LLC and photographer Andreas Franke to create an underwater attraction with Franke's artwork. The other award winners included trendsetting e-newsletters, an innovative Google Glass social media campaign and advertising efforts to help travelers "find their island."

Spiro Services for Home

& Business opens in Cape

Cape Coral resident Jeffrey Spiro, 23, has launched Spiro Services for Home & Business based in Cape Coral, a full-service firm with four crews and a truck fleet. The new company offers a range of services including pool maintenance, repair and contractor services; power washing; and landscape and lawn work. Spiro Services for Home & Business covers Lee, Char-lotte, Collier, Hendry and Desoto counties.

Spiro has been a lifelong Southwest Florida resident, and is licensed in the state as a certified pool operator, commercial pool operator and certified pool inspector.

Spiro got the idea to start his own business after neighbors and friends in Cape Coral first asked him to service their pools during his off time, then began requesting other services for their homes, including landscaping and power washing buildings, walkways and driveways. That's when the business idea became a reality.

With the growth of his new company he has upgraded his equipment including a sophisticated pressure washer with water at 140 degrees to eliminate mold and bacteria.

Additionally, Spiro is on the threshold of launching a sister business, Spiro Residential & Commercial Construction Inc., to provide services ranging from home building and remodeling to commercial suite build-outs.
