Big inning carries Raiders past Seahawks 6-5

A big four-run inning in the in the third staked Riverdale to an early lead and they parlayed that to a 6-5 victory Friday night at Cape Coral.

Tyler Tognarine (0-1) took the loss. Dylan Bontrager had two hits to lead the Seahawks with Scott Dudas, Kyle Arjona and Brandon Pryor adding base hits, including doubles by Arjona and Pryor.

The Seahawks (2-3) play at Golden Gate on Friday.

Fort Myers 24, East Lee County 0: Grant Boland and Trevor Hume pitched a combined no-hitter Friday night, the team's second of the season, as Fort Myers annihilated East Lee County in five innings.

Zach Lecius and Julious Forbes contributed two hits apiece and a combined three RBI for the Green Wave. Carter Smith knocked in two runs with one hit.

Boland (1-0) picked up the win with three scoreless, hitless innings and Hume pitched two innings. The Wave (4-1) host Charlotte on Friday.


Cape Coral 12, Riverdale 9: Makenzie Buss struck out nine batters and went 4-for-4 at the plate with a home run, a double and three RBI to lead Cape Coral's victory over Riverdale Friday night.

Danielle Smith added two hits, including a triple, and scored two runs while Ally Slaughter collected two hits and scored twice. Cheyenne Krolcyzck drove in three runs with a pair of base hits.

The Seahawks (3-2) travel to Golden Gate on Friday.

Girls Soccer

Katie "Sully" Sullivan signed a letter-of-intent Thursday at Bishop Verot for her scholarship to play soccer at Stetson University.

She was playing for Verot at the state final four playoffs in Melbourne on national signing day. She chose Stetson over powerhouse North Carolina. She also will be playing her first international game in April when she travels to Italy with the Olympic Development Program.

Sullivan played her first organized soccer game in the Cape Coral Youth Soccer program prior to moving around the country with parents with a military commitment and returned to Southwest Florida just in time for her sophomore season at Verot.


Island Coast High School will host a College and Career Night on Wednesday from 6-7:30 p.m. All students and their parents are invited to attend as 75 colleges, career institutions, and military from 12 different states will be represented to answer any questions.

Island Coast, is located at 2125 Del Navarra Parkway.
