City should not buy the golf course

February 20, 2014
Cape Coral Daily Breeze

To the editor:

Again the ugly head of the golf course rears it head. Councilman Burch wants the city to look again to buy the course that closed in 2006. Is he sitting on the fence? He wants to look at buying it, and also is against buying it, as stated in a recent article in The Breeze.

The taxpayers can't afford to lose 175 acres of taxable property. The city can't afford to buy it, unless they come up with a new tax system to rape the people of this city to pay for it.

Let the owners sell the property to any offer they get. Keep it on the tax rolls. There are many golf courses in our area already struggling to keep afloat, don't add another one. As I mentioned in a prior letter about this issue, if the city did buy it, how much more money is needed to bring it back to playable condition, hire a manager, golf pro and grounds crew to maintain it? Drop the idea of buying it, start fixing the broken things we already have.
