A pig roast fundraiser hosted by Pride and Patriotism of Lee County and The Military Order of the Purple Heart will take place at Anthony's on the Blvd. 1303 Del Prado Blvd. in Cape Coral, on Saturday from noon to midnight.

It will be a chance to enjoy the music and art by local youth and to thank combat wounded veterans for their sacrifices to defend their freedom.

Tony Serrago, owner of Anthony's, said his restaurant has done numerous events for military groups, and asked if they wanted to do something. Serrago cleared space on the calendar and said it was a go.

"We'd appreciate people coming out and having a good time and promoting our causes," Serrago said. "It's a good cause."

Among the featured performers will be the drill team from Mariner High School, which will perform at 2 p.m. and the Lehigh Children's Choir will perform at 3.

After that, Chicago Heat will take the stage to perform Rat Pack-style music, followed by the country rock band The Contenders, which will play from 7 to 11 p.m.

Raffles, door prizes and 50/50 drawings will take place throughout the day. Among the prizes will be a cruise on the Key West Express, a liquor basket and artwork.

The tax-deductible donation of $10 will be taken in advance, $12 at the door. The price includes a pig roast and two sides, a raffle ticket, and a free Sunday breakfast buffet at Anthony's from now until April.

Pride and Patriotism is celebrated every November at Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall as an event called "Youth Celebrating the Arts and Honoring our Veterans," which features music and awards prizes to children of all grade levels for patriotic art.

Serrago hopes to see the local veteran organizations there, since Pride and Patriotism is in honor of them.

"A lot of them overlap, and the support each other," Serrago said. "The Purple Heart people are a real unique group, and Pride & Patriotism is for the kids and that stays in Lee County."

He also hopes to raise at least $5,000 before the drawings, since all proceeds will go to those organizations

The Military Order of the Purple Heart, exclusively composed of combat wounded veterans, will be there on Feb. 22.
