Naples mauls Baker 8-0

Naples routed Ida Baker 8-0 Tuesday in a second-round game of the Cape Coral Early Bird Tournament at Terry Park.

Cody Leuzenger took the loss for the Bulldogs (1-1), who take on Cape High Wednesday night in the final round of the tournament.

Mariner 14, Riverdale 0: Michael Laborde drove in four runs with a pair of hits and Logan Hanick delivered a bases-clearing double to spark Mariner to a season-opening victory Tuesday night.

Victor Marrero was a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI to back the three-hit pitching of Luis Ferrer with six strikeouts over five innings.

The Tritons (1-0) rescheduled its home game with South Fort Myers to Wednesday night due to the basketball team hosting a regional quarterfinal game Thursday night.

Island Coast 2, Charlotte 1: Quinn Bourque rescued Island Coast Tuesday night by driving in the game-winning run in the eighth inning with a sacrifice fly to beat Charlotte.

Bourque struck out four over four innings for the Gators, but Bret Billman pitched two innings in relief to pick up the win. Anthony Churlin had two hits to lead the Gators (1-0), who play at Riverdale on Friday.

Oasis 4, Dunbar 2: Garrett Graber allowed four base hits and struck out eight over seven innings to lead Oasis to a season-opening victory over Dunbar Tuesday night.

Graber helped his own cause with a two-run triple among his two hits and three RBI. The Sharks turned a game-ending double play to preserve the win.

The Sharks (1-0) host Canterbury at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Fort Myers 10, Lehigh 0: Starter Kevin Mitchell and reliever Tim Winter tossed a combined no-hitter to propel Fort Myers to a season-opening victory Tuesday.

Andy Gundell led the Green Wave with three hits and two RBI. Zach Lecius contributed two RBI with a base hit and Julious Forbes drove in a pair of runs with one hit. Carter Smith walked three times and had one RBI.

The Wave (1-0) play at Dunbar Thursday.

Softball

Mariner 9, Riverdale 1: Madi McClellan and Abby Love drilled home runs to lead Mariner's victory over Riverdale Tuesday night.

Kaylyn Friday pitched a complete game for the Tritons, who host South Fort Myers on Thursday.

North Fort Myers 22, Island Coast 0: Madison White pitched a one-hit, three-inning shutout Tuesday night as North Fort Myers posted its second win of the season.

Shelby Coyne had three hits and drove in four runs to lead the Knights with Summer Ackerson contributing two hits and Alynn Kayatta a double. The Knights (2-0) play at Cypress Lake Thursday night.

Estero 10, Cape Coral 9: Mckenzie Buss came through with four hits and Cheyenne Kolzak two hits, including a double and four RBI, to lead Cape High in a losing effort against Estero Tuesday night.

Oasis 17, Dunbar 0: Oasis made its season debut Tuesday with a rousing victory over Dunbar.

Winning pitcher Katie O'Connor allowed one hit and struck out three while her teammates backed her with nine base hits, led by Crystal Monaghan (2-for-3).

The Sharks (1-0) host Southwest Florida Christian on Friday.

Naples 5, Bishop Verot 3: Naples knocked off Bishop Verot Tuesday night. Erin Kyle had two hits and one RBI to lead the Vikings.
