Long-time wrestling powerhouse Riverdale won the LCAC championship Saturday at Mariner with 218.5 points.

Second-place Fort Myers scored 159 and host Mariner finished third with 137.5 at the 13-team tournament. Riverdale and Fort Myers each had six wrestlers in the finals and Mariner had five. Riverdale champions included James Monos at 106 pounds and Tyler Floyd at 160.

Mariner's Junior Dattalico finished second along with senior Zach Fouch. Sophomore Keaton Koselke earned his first LCAC championship by defeating senior Trevor Swanson of Riverdale 10-2 in the finals. Ashton Plourde and senior Alejandro Lopez won his second LCAC tournament defeating Nabbacus Watkins of Cypress Lake 11-5 in the finals.

"I really pushed myself and had a great week at practice," Plourde said. "This is a nice accomplishment but my main goal is to win a state title."

Island Coast finished fifth with 104 points and earned the first LCAC wrestling champion in the school's history with Davon Boyd winning the 132-pound weight class.

When asked what contributed to his success Boyd said, "Practicing every day, listening to my coaches and determination."

The Gators had three third-place finishers in Frank McNeal 138, Andrew Ottinger 145 and Nick Quinones 220.

Cape High finished ninth with seniors Ron Allen (152) and heavyweight David Martin placing second.

"Both Seniors have been working hard and we are looking forward to this momentum carrying through districts," said Seahwks coach Trevor Elliott.

North Fort Myers finished 12th. Junior Joey Ciganek finished third.

Ida Baker placed 10th with Nick Richards at (160) and Mike Rodriquez (heavyweight) finishing third.

"Richards is only a sophomore," said Gators coach Jason Johns. "He has beat ranked wrestlers so we are hoping he qualifies for the state tournament. He is a great kid, definitely someone to keep your eye on. He is a good listener with a really positive attitude. "
