Shutouts rule in 3A-13 girls' soccer

District 3A-13 girls' soccer tournament play kicked off with an overtime game followed by three shutouts at Island Coast Monday.

South Fort Myers advanced with a 2-1 win over Cape Coral in the overtime opening game with North Fort Myers, Ida Baker and Mariner all registering the shutout wins.

Marcella Montoya led Baker to its 12-0 rout of East Lee County with three goals. Gabby Morales, Gabby Hallnan and Syniah Clark each contributed two goals. Morgan Holbrook, Angela Christiano and Iman Al-Shibibi each added on goal.

The Bulldogs' goalkeeper never faced a shot on goal. The Bulldogs (21-0-2) advance to Wednesday's semifinal round against North Fort Myers, which dispatched Lemon Bay 7-0.

Darian Leschewski led the Knights (15-5) with three goals, one on a penalty kick and another on a free kick. Megan Richards, Nicole Paquin, Tori Kowalczk and Madison Lampkins each tacked on one goal. Keeper Coral Jarvis had just one save.

Holly Fritz added to her school record career goal scoring total by two in the Tritons' 3-0 win over Island Coast, giving the junior a total of 151 goals. Victoria Glidden had the other goal.

Mariner (11-7-2) meets South Fort Myers in Wednesday's other semifinal match. The champion will be crowned Friday night.

Boys Soccer

Mariner 2, Venice 0: Trevor Jurkowski and Steven Schwab knocked in goals to send Mariner to victory Monday night.

Goalkeeper Michael Laborde made seven saves in registering his 15th shutout of the season and close to within two of the school record of 17 shutouts. Eric Rivera was credited with an assist.

The Tritons (13-2-4) host Lehigh on Tuesday.

Cape Coral 2, Lakewood Ranch 2: A late goal by Lakewood Ranch forced Cape Coral to settle for a tie Monday night in Bradenton.

Trailing 1-0 in the first half, Oscar Trujillo's unassisted goal tied the match before intermission. Miguel Martinez scored an unassisted goal in the second half and the 2-1 lead lasted until the final three minutes when the tying goal was scored.

Goalkeepers Austin Lachmann and Alex Collazo combined for 12 saves. The Seahawks (17-1-1) visit Bishop Verot on Wednesday.

Boys Basketball

Bishop Verot 49, Ida Baker 10: Ricky Doyle pitched in a game-high 20 points to go with 12 rebounds to lead Bishop Verot to a lopsided victory over Ida Baker Monday night.

Ruben Beard had a team-high three points for the Bulldogs.

The Vikings (9-7) host Oasis Tuesday night.
