A Cape Coral driver lost control of a semitrailer early this morning and crashed.

Donald Ray Boger, 36, was traveling eastbound on Pine Island Road in the inside lane, just west of U.S. 41, when he lost control of the truck for unknown reasons at 12:28 a.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The semitrailer began to rotate counter clockwise, traveling onto the grass median.

The side of the truck collided into a sign and a tree, before it overturned and hit a second tree.

Boger was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital with critical injuries, officials reported.

The accident is not alcohol related.

The investigation continues.
