Douglas Clark Marker, 72, of Cape Coral passed away Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, in Cape Coral. He was born July 30, 1941, in Fargo, N.D., to Louis Doyle and Jean Marker, now deceased.
People always loved his unique, independent spirit and shared his avid interests in motorcycles, boats and fast cars. He was a National Champion SCCA D Class Race Car driver, Olympic sailor, community leader, business owner, pilot and, most of all, a great father and devoted husband. He was blessed that he was able to do the things he loved that a lot of guys just dream about.
When he found out about his illness six weeks ago, everyone was very sad but was amazed at his attitude. He leaves his wife, Valorie Maker, whom has been a wonderful support for him and the love of his life for over 40 years; his sons, Doug Jr. (Mairi) of Southlake, Texas, Chris (Annette) Marker of Mill Valley, Calif.; three grandchildren, Colin and Lindsey from Dallas, Texas, and Theo from Mill Valley, Calif.; as well as many friends throughout the country.
He was not a big fan of funerals so there will not be one. His wish is that he be cremated and his ashes to be put into the sea and it will be done as promised.
The family asks that please, no flowers be sent. Memorial contributions in memory of Doug Marker are suggested to Hope Hospice, 9470 HealthPark Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908, or any favorite charity of choice that is the best way to remember such a wonderful man because those we cherish will always live on in memory.
Friends are invited to send condolences via the on-line guest book which can be found at www.MullinsMemorial.com.
Mullins Memorial Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cape Coral, is entrusted with final care.
