Lee County launches flood insurance information website

October 25, 2013
Cape Coral Daily Breeze

Lee County is working diligently to gain federal legislators' support in delaying implementation of a federal flood insurance rate increase so that an affordability study can be done.

In the meantime, homeowners and business owners in unincorporated Lee County can learn about the impact of the Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2012 via a new section on the Lee County Department of Community Development's website.

Visit and click on "Biggert-Waters Act" under "What's New." You will learn what the legislation is, who will be affected by it and a timeline for implementation. You can also find out what policyholders can do, and how Lee County is helping to address the rate increases.

The Biggert-Waters information is part of the Community Development website's Flood Mapping section, which also provides homeowners in unincorporated Lee County an easy way to look up their flood zones, get copies of their FEMA Elevation Certificates and much more.
