Ida Baker's Ross Lally laid claim to the Region 2A-7 individual golf title Monday with an even-par round of 72 at Stoneybrook Golf Club in Estero.
Lally had two birdies and two bogeys on his card, including a three-putt bogey on the final hole to win the championship by one stroke over Blake Lolato of Gateway Charter, who won a playoff for second place with 73.
Lally advances to the State Class 2A Tournament, a 36-hole event, next Tuesday and Wednesday at Mission Inn Resort at Howey-in-the-Hills near Orlando.
"I'm very proud of him," said Baker coach Scott Conforte. "He hit a ton of greens and played a solid round. It was our best number of the year, 331, and we finished fifth."
Barron Collier took the team title with 317, followed by Lemon Bay at 318, Estero at 326 and Naples at 327. Mariner placed seventh of nine school with 369.
Alec DiLallo shot 79 for the Bulldogs along with Gage Wilson 89 and Rueben Beard at 91 to achieve their team total.
District 6A-11: North Fort Myers eliminated Island Coast Monday in the first round of the district tournament 25-22, 25-18, 25-13.
Jennifer Fasano led the Gators (7-18) with five kills to go with two service aces. Julia Rose added three aces and 10 assists.
North advances to the semifinal round Tuesday at Venice. Ida Baker plays at Port Charlotte in the other semifinal match Tuesday. The championship match is Thursday on the highest remaining seed's court.
