Patrick Richard O'Mara
He has been a resident of the Cape Coral area since 1988. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force and then continued in public service for 28 years at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta. His work was devoted to the prevention and control of communicable diseases throughout the nation and U.S. Territories.
After his retirement from the CDC, his commitment to public health led him to work with South Florida's immigrant health services. After retiring a second time, he accepted a 2-year position with the Carter Presidential Center (Atlanta), leading the eradication of the guinea worm in Ghana, West Africa. The program's continued success kept him in Ghana for an additional six years. His true passion in life led him back home to his love and devotion to family, friends and fishing!
Mr. O'Mara was a true "Irishman" for his humility, practicality, compassion and love of God.
