To the editor:
Most of us have watched our local government with embarrassment and disappointment. It has never been a more critical time that the elected officials stand up to guide our city. Several of the current leaders have not shown the wisdom or any interest in making the necessary changes that we all know need to be made.
Leadership starts at the top.
Sadly, recent history has taught us that very few citizens vote in local elections, and even fewer in the primary. We all need to work to change this. We need our voices to be heard and help redirect the future of our city.
I have had the chance to meet almost all of the current candidates and two individuals stand out far above all the others. I believe they both have the passion, intelligence and leadership skills necessary to guide our city in the manner we all want and desperately need.
For Mayor, I believe strongly that Marni Sawicki has what it takes to unite our council and our city in a direction we so sorely need. I believe she has the ability to realign our council and work with other city leaders to make the hard decisions that must be made. We can no longer alienate ourselves from the Lee County government; instead we must find common bridges we can cross together. Ms. Sawicki brings a breath of fresh air and a common sense way of thinking our city certainly needs. She is a dedicated, hardworking, sharp leader who can strengthen our city and present the image necessary to get our city noticed locally and statewide.
For District 1, Jim Burch has the experience and statesmanship to also reenergize our Council. Jim is a tireless leader willing to work with others to get our Council functional again. We cannot allow the anti-growth mentality that our current leadership has to further cripple our fragile economy.
Early voting is now on. I ask you to please make sure your voice is heard. There is a very good likelihood that just a few votes could swing this election. Do not allow a small block of voters with a different agenda to swing this election in a direction that we will all suffer from. Instead, let's change the future of our city and begin paving the road to economic growth and prosperity.
Thank you for your continued support and consideration,
