Baker knocks off Estero 3-1

Ida Baker continues to dominate opponents in an early season surge that allowed the Bulldogs to register their fourth straight victory with a four-set win over Estero Wednesday night.

The Bulldogs, who dropped the second game in the match, extended their win streak with a 25-18, 21-25, 25-18, 25-16 triumph.

Freshman Amanda Gross went "above and beyond" to lead the Bulldogs with 16 kills, five servce aces, 11 digs and a total of 23 serving points. Machaela Sheffield backed the win with 10 kills while Devon Ramey contributed nine kills, Ashley Vargas six kills and Tiffany Wood handed out 38 assists.

The Bulldogs (4-1) participate in the Sharks Invitational on Saturday at Oasis.

Mariner 3, Island Coast 1: Mariner outlasted Island Coast Wednesday night in four games 25-22, 17-25, 25-18, 25-18.

The Gators were led by Kalli Roggow with 20 kills. Julia Rose handed out 27 assists in the losing cause.

The Gators (1-2) play Tuesday at East Lee County. Mariner hosts Lely on Tuesday.

Cape Coral 3, Lehigh 0: Cape Coral evened its season record Wednesday night with a straight-set win at Lehigh 25-22, 25-21, 25-15.

Katie Upton led the Seahawks with 16 assists to go with four service aces. Alayshia Henry contributed three aces and added three blocks. Casey Ruse served four aces with one dig and Makenzie Buss three aces, one dig and one block.

The Sehaawks (2-2) host Port Charlotte on Monday.

Canterbury 3, North Fort Myers 0: A straight-set loss to Canterbury Wednesday night 25-18, 25-16, 25-19 leaves North Fort Myers nursing a 2-2 season record.

Madison Prusak led the Knights with five kills and 17 digs. Kaitlyn Kelly added four kills to go with 13 digs and Lindsay Stramel contributed seven kills.

The Knights host Venice on Tuesday.

Ida Baker 156, Mariner 163, Island Coast 173: In a match shortened to five holes by rain at Coral Oaks Wednesday, Ida

Baker came away with a pair of wins over Mariner and Island Coast.

Baker's Maggie Coffman had the medalist score for the match with 24 while Mariner's Gerilynn Rossman carded a low round of 37 and Denicse Valdes 40 to lead Island Coast.

Mariner's next match if Tuesday against Cape at Coral Oaks.
