More election coverage needed

August 2, 2013
Cape Coral Daily Breeze

To the editor:

After attending the Civic Association Forum for candidates running for office in Cape Coral, I wished I had stayed at home. Nothing has changed - same old questions - nothing new. The person who brought the most supporters, got the most votes. We learned nothing about these people running for office, no wonder that Gordon Ultsch, candidate for Mayor, went to City Hall the very next day and withdrew his name from the Mayor's race. The newspaper didn't even mention the fact that he withdrew - like who cares!

I feel that the News-Press and The Breeze should be doing a better job informing the citizens on what is going on in Cape Coral. This is a very important race. Questions that you the voter and the newspapers should demand the answers to. Who is this person running for office? How long have you lived in Cape Coral? Have you ever attended a Council meeting? If so, how many? Have you ever served on a Committee in Cape Coral, if so, what ones? What experience do you have with the City, County or State Government? Have you ever worked on a City Budget, or any other million dollar plus budgets? These are some of the questions that should have been asked, and I hope the newspapers will get this information out to you before the Primary Election.

The positions of Mayor and Councilman was only a part time job, but since this City has grown, it has turned into a full time job with only part time pay, and that also needs to be addressed this year! If you can't give these positions your full attention then you shouldn't be running for Mayor or Councilperson!!!
