VIERA - Tyler Duffey registered 10 strikeouts and the Fort Myers Miracle offense churned out 10 runs on 15 hits to beat the Brevard County Manatees 10-3 Monday night.
Duffey (3-3) began the game by striking out the side in the first inning and remained perfect through the fourth. In seven innings, Duffey allowed three runs on five hits with one walk. In his last four starts, Duffey is 3-0 with a 1.67 earned run average.
The Miracle offense staked Duffey to a 2-0 lead after the first three innings. In the second, D.J. Hicks lifted a 2-2 pitch from Manatee starter Jacob Barnes over the fence in left center. The home run was Hicks' second since joining the Miracle on Tuesday, July 16. In the third, Matt Koch delivered a two-out, RBI single.
In the last four innings of play, the Miracle plated eight runs. Six Miracle batters registered multiple hits. Hicks ended his night 3-for-4 with four runs scored, a homer and three RBI. Stephen Wickens was 3-for-4 with three driven in and Koch finished 2-for-5 with three RBI.
Barnes (6-4) lasted 5.1 innings and gave up three runs on eight hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. The Manatee bullpen allowed seven runs and walked six in the final 3.2 innings.
Nelvin Fuentes pitched a scoreless final two innings for the Miracle and ensure a winning road trip. Fort Myers has won five of the first six games on an eight-game trip.
The Miracle (60-36, 15-14) return at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday to face the Manatees (51-44, 14-14).
