VIERA - Levi Michael's seventh inning RBI single broke a scoreless tie to lift the Fort Myers Miracle to a 1-0 win over the Brevard County Manatees in rainy conditions Sunday evening.
After a lengthy delay in the bottom of the sixth of a scoreless game, play resumed at Space Coast Stadium in the rain. In the seventh, the Miracle plated the only run of the evening. With one out, Stephen Wickens hit a ground ball to short off Manatee reliever Matt Miller that was bobbled by Yadiel Rivera. The next hitter, Kyle Knudson, worked a full count on Miller. With Wickens running, Knudson took a ball four wild pitch that put runners on the corners. Michael then sliced a 1-2 pitch into left center field to plate Wickens and give the Miracle a 1-0 lead.
Reliever Adrian Salcedo entered the game after the delay and inherited a 1-1 count with a runner on first base and one out. Salcedo (4-1) worked out of the jam and then went on to pitch a scoreless seventh and eighth to pick up the win.
Tyler Jones closed out the victory in the ninth with a perfect inning and two strikeouts for his first save since joining the Miracle on Tuesday, July 16.
Jason Wheeler started and received a no decision, but went 5.1 innings and allowed just three hits with three strikeouts. Brent Suter began the game for the Manatees and went six scoreless.
Miller (1-3) gave up an unearned run in relief for Brevard County and was tagged with the loss.
The Miracle (59-36, 14-14) return to Space Coast Stadium Monday for the second of a four-game series against the Manatees (51-43, 14-13).
