JUPITER - The Jupiter Hammerheads pounded out 11 hits in an 11-2 win Thursday night over the Fort Myers Miracle.
The Hammerheads scored two runs in the first inning and never trailed, also having multiple run innings in the fourth and seventh. Against Miracle starter Taylor Rogers in the fourth, Jupiter sent eight to the plate and scored five runs. Josh Adams delivered an RBI single while Ryan Goetz and Brent Keys recorded back-to-back two-run base hits.
Rogers (6-2) lasted four innings and gave up seven runs, four earned, on seven hits.
After working a perfect fifth and sixth, Miracle reliever Chad Rogers exited the game in the seventh with two outs and the bases loaded. Adrian Salcedo came in to face Jupiter right fielder Alex Burg. On the first pitch, Burg lifted a high fly ball over the fence in left field for a grand slam and pushed the Hammerhead lead to 11-1.
Jupiter starter Jose Urena tossed six strong innings with only one unearned run allowed and six strikeouts. Urena (6-3) gave way to the bullpen in the seventh and the second Miracle run scored was from a Candido Pimentel RBI groundout in the ninth.
The 11 runs given up by the Miracle pitching staff is the most in a single game this season and the 11-2 loss is the largest margin of defeat.
Two Miracle hitters registered multiple hits. Jhonathan Goncalves went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and Jonathan Murphy was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
The Miracle (48-27, 3-5) finish a three-game series and six-game road trip at Jupiter (40-37, 4-4) Friday night.
