Nick Ramirez hit a pair of key doubles to lift the Brevard County Manatees to a 6-4 victory Monday night over the Fort Myers Miracle at Hammond Stadium.
With the game tied 3-3 in the sixth, Ramirez doubled to deep left-center with two outs off Miracle starter Matt Tomshaw. Ben McMahan followed with an RBI single to plate Ramirez and give the Manatees the lead for good.
Ramirez added an insurance run with another two-out double in the eighth against Adrian Salcedo that brought home Cameron Garfield.
Manatees starter Brent Suter held the Miracle in check through seven innings. He scattered nine hits and gave up three runs while striking out four. He earned the win.
Reliever Kevin Shackelford worked a perfect eighth and Tommy Toledo worked around two walks and an RBI sac fly to close out the game for the Manatees.
Brevard County jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third. Tomshaw retired the first six batters he faced, but T.J. Middelstaedt singled to lead off the third. He moved to third on a double by Lance Roenicke and scored on a single from Brandon Macias. Gregory Hopkins then brought Middelstaedt and Macias home with a double to right field.
The Miracle fought back to tie it up. Eddie Rosario and Miguel Sano drove in a pair of runs with back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the third. Stephen Wickens tied the game with a two-out bloop hit that scored Angel Morales in the fourth.
The 3-3 score held until McMahan drove in Ramirez in the sixth.
Tomshaw, in his second start with the Miracle since being called up from Cedar Rapids, took the loss. He allowed four runs in six innings. He struck out four.
Morales went 3-for-4 with two singles and a double for Fort Myers. Morales raised his season average to .302.
The Miracle (40-16) and Manatees (29-27) meet again at 7:05 p.m. Thursday at Hammond Stadium
