John "Jack" Reyer Holmes, 80, of Cape Coral, formerly of Greensville, Ohio, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2013, at his home. He was born Jan. 3, 1933. in Auburn, N.Y., to Leslie and Doris Holmes, now deceased.
He was of the Christian faith. He also enjoyed being a member of the American Legion. He was a Korean War veteran having served in the United Stated Marine Corps, where he learned the trade of meat cutting. In his life, he worked for several grocery companies practicing his trade and was also a meat director for Superfoods Inc. (Bellefontaine, Ohio). He and his wife owned and operated Northside Meats and Delicatessen in Greenville, Ohio, prior to relocating to Cape Coral in 1988. At the time of his death he was working for Publix Supermarket in Cape Coral, where he had been a meat cutter for 13 years.
He will be remembered by all as a very giving and loving man. He was known to donate generously to the food banks throughout the years. He always wanted for everyone to have everything they could need, and could not stand the thought of anyone being without. He was very proud of his family and had often stated that he was put on Earth to take care of his wife and children. He was an extraordinary husband, father and grandfather.
Mr. Holmes is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Frances L. Holmes of Cape Coral; two children, Marti (Doug) Stull of Cape Coral; stepson, Dan (Beverly) Howard of Middletown, Ohio; one sister, Kay Pesek of Auburn, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren, Julie Stull, Jaime (Stull) Olivo, Jennifer (Stull) Deniston, Cindy (Howard) Banks, Chris Howard, Andrea (Howard) Hendrix, Josh Wright , Tom Howard, Cherie D'Varga, and Bart Howard; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Victor and Robert Holmes, and his stepson, Tom Howard.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, June 1, at First Assembly West, 121 Del Prado Blvd., Cape Coral, with Pastor Corey Baker officiating.
