Spring footballs flying

May 17, 2013
By JIM LINETTE (jlinette@breezenewspapers.com) , Cape Coral Daily Breeze

Footballs are flying through the air once again as area high schools prepare for spring games before breaking for the summer.

Things were kicked off Thursday night as the Mariner Tritons held their annual Silver and Black intrasquad scrimmage at Tony McKenna Field.

The Tritons still have a spring game to play, at 7 p.m. on May 24 at Golden Gate.

The Bishop Verot Vikings hit the road to play at First Baptist Academy in Naples Thursday night.

Three games involving Cape schools are on the schedule this weekend. You still have time to catch the Cape Coral Seahawks playing at Immokalee tonight (Friday).

Also, Island Coast hosts Fort Myers at 7:30 while North Fort Myers hosts Lehigh at 7 p.m.

Island Coast is hosting a fish fry of Tilapia harvested from the Academy of Natural Resources on the school campus. The cost is $5 per plate and includes a bag of chips, while supplies last. It is a joint effort of the athletic department and the academy.

Next week, Ida Baker hosts Naples at 7 p.m. on Thursday and Mariner on Friday.

All will be quiet until teams report in August for the 2013-14 season.
