Cape Coral Police to host Public Safety Charity Softball Tournament

April 19, 2013
Cape Coral Daily Breeze

On Sunday April 21, the Cape Coral Police Department will host its second annual Charity Softball Tournament in support of its Youth Crime Intervention Program. The tournament will be played at the NW Softball Complex at 1030 NW 16th Place (across from Mariner High School). First Pitch is at 9:50 a.m.

The tourney will feature teams from Fort Myers Police Department, Highlands County Sheriff's Office, North Port Police Department, Iona McGregor Fire Department, Fort Myers Shores Fire Department, Lee County EMS, Lee County Port Authority Fire Department, and Cape Coral Police Department.

Previous years' tournaments have raised money that has helped send kids from Cape Coral to various events such as National Boxing Tournaments and National Gymnastics Competitions. This year the tournament hopes to raise funds for Phalon Cannarella of Cape Coral. Phalon recently won crown of Jr. Miss Teen Florida and will be competing in the Jr. Teen Miss USA pageant that his being held on June 24, in Houston Texas.

Phalon was born in Cape Coral and lives with her grandmother, Geri Cannarella, also of Cape Coral. Phalon will be entering Cape Coral High School as a member of the International Baccalaureate (I.B.) Program in the Fall. While it is a great honor to be selected to compete in the Jr. Teen Miss USA pageant, the fees associated with it are very steep making it extremely difficult for Phalon and her grandmother to be able to make the trip to the competition. The Cape Coral Police Department and its softball team are very proud of Phalon for her pageant accomplishments as well as her academic accomplishments, and are honored that we will be able to help Phalon represent the City of Cape Coral, and the State of Florida. Phalon will kick off the softball tournament by making the honorary first pitch at 9:50 a.m.

The department would like to thank its generous sponsors that helped us make this tournament a reality: Flawless Barber Shop, Jaime's Towing, Sinclair Homes, and Dana Safety Supply.
