To the editor:
As the saying goes, "If one does not learn from history, one is condemned to repeat it."
If not for the initiative on "Revenue Diversification" by City Manager (CM) John Szerlag, the crisis of our municipal infrastructure would have been ignored, and we would have repeated the history of years gone by in Cape Coral. So... "Who is to blame for this financial mess?'"
The CM stated previous administrations balanced the budget on the back of infrastructure. City vehicles, industrial equipment and road repair have all come to a virtual standstill over the last several years. Why?
It is obvious the blame for this financial mess falls in the lap of Mayor John Sullivan. The mayor was quick to point out the CM's earlier referenced statement on previous administrations. However, "Does poor oversight in the past, exonerate failed leadership in the present, presided over by our current mayor?" I believe Mayor Sullivan's response qualifies as an excuse, not an answer.
I put forward that Mayor Sullivan's failed leadership, has caused the current municipal financial crisis, and worsened our quality of life.
Mayor Sullivan, now is the time to explain why you have allowed this to happen?
Myself and other citizens await an explanation.
