Philip Hayden Martins, 59, of Cape Coral, formerly of Seattle, Wash., passed away Sunday, March 17, 2013, in Cape Coral. He was born Dec. 20, 1953, in Oak Park, Ill., to Elson and Elizabeth Martins.
He was of the Christian faith. His lifelong fascination with airplanes led him to obtain his pilot license as an adult. As a teenager, he built a dark room in the basement of his parents' home. The passion he had for photography led to a career as a photographer and graphic designer. He was always ready with a joke to put a smile on the faces of those who needed it.
Mr. Martins is survived by his three children, Janelle Corsack (Keith) of Maple Valley, Wash., Kirk Martins (Melissa) of Enumclaw, Wash., and Jolena Long (Reece) of Covington, Wash.; his mother, Elizabeth Martins of Cape Coral; three sisters, Susan Miller (Mark), Nancy Holder (Terry) and Janet Mohr (Larry); three brothers, Dan Martins (Brenda), Steve Martins and Tim Martins (Robyn); six grandchildren, Hayden Martins Paul, Hunter Paul, Elsie Otis, Evelyn Long, Tucker Martins and Tytan Martins; as well as a special friend, Beeyee Chow.
A Memorial Service was held Tuesday, April 2, at All Saints Lutheran Church, 630 S. Quentin Road, Palatine, IL 60067. A reception took place immediately following services.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Washington at a later date to be announced.
