Williams files to run for District 6 City Council seat

Richard "Rick" Williams has announced that hs has officially filed paperwork to run for the Cape Coral City Council District 6 seat now held by Kevin McGrail.

Originally from Connecticut, Williams has been a resident of Cape Coral since 2004 and active in local civic organizations as well as regional water, environmental and transportation issues, according to a press release announcing his candidacy.

Williams is a member of the LeeTran Job Access Reverse Commute, New Freedom Selection Committee for grant funds distribution. He is coordinating the upcoming 2013 Mullet Toss on March 23 for the Matlacha Mariners and the 2013 annual Trash Bash held to be held on Earth Day and co-sponsored by Keep Lee County Beautiful together with local law enforcement officers. In addition to being a 2008 graduate of Cape Coral's Citizens Academy, he is in the current 2013 class and volunteered for a year with the City of Cape Coral's Department of Community Development. He is a member of the board of directors and past president of the Northwest Neighborhood Association.

Past memberships include the Metropolitan Planning Organization Citizen Advisory Committee, from which he recently resigned to run for office. He also served as one of the original 21 stakeholders in the North Spreader Ecosystem Management Agreement process, a two-year scientific study of the water and environmental issues in northwest Cape Coral.

Williams retired from the U.S. Navy after 22 years of service and later managed the National Service Center in New York for GE Clinical Services, a division of GE Medical Systems. He plans a grass roots campaign that centers on listening to residents throughout Cape Coral.
