Robert D. "Bob" Hensley, 56, who was born Dec. 14, 1956, and passed away March 2, 2013, spent nearly three decades as a real estate developer in South Florida. He moved to Fort Myers from St. Clair Shores, Mich., in early 1980. In 1992 he was involved in the sale of the land that is now known as Gulf Harbour Yacht & Country Club. By 1997 he started his own development company, Gross Pointe Development Company. He changed the landscape of South Florida with his vision and by developing award-winning communities such as Palmas Del Sol in Gulf Harbour, The Residents at Bell Tower Park and The Resort at Marina Village.
He was a past board member of the Salvation Army and supported the American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, The American Heart Association, Hospice, The Southwest Florida Symphony Society and many others.
He was surrounded in his last hours by his family and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Conley "Bob" and Carol Hensley of Fort Myers. He is survived by his brother, Greg (Nan) Hensley of Brentwood, Tenn.; two nieces, Kristen Hensley of Brentwood, Tenn., and Kayla Hensley (Zachary) Pharr of Memphis, Tenn.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m., today, March 6, at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers. Friends will be received from 2-3 p.m. prior to services on today.
