Mariner scratches for two hits in 4-0 loss

Naples shut out Mariner 4-0 Monday night on a two-hit complete game effort by starting pitcher Jared Walker.

Walker struck out five batters for the Eagles, who took advantage of four Mariner errors. They chased Tritons starter Chase Hunt (0-1) after just two innings. The loss snapped the Tritons' four-game winning streak.

Grant Ashline led the Eagles (4-1) with a double and a triple while Blaze Vazques cracked a solo home run in the two-run fifth inning.

Tony Lopez had both of the Tritons' base hits off Walker.

The Tritons (5-4) host Ida Baker Tuesday.

Oasis 5, Gateway Charter 2: Oasis earned its first victory of the season Monday night behind the one-hit, three-strikeout performance of pitcher Dan Korchick (1-3).

Oasis had all the runs it would need when Korchick went out after four innings with a 5-0 lead. Gabe Villaverde, Garrett Graber and Devlin Collins each contributed a double toward the Sharks' offense.

The Sharks (1-9) took advantage of six errors by Gateway. They host Imagine School at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Cape Coral Sports Complex.

Softball

Mariner 5, Golden Gate 1: A grand slam home run by Heather Gillions in the second inning capped a five-run outburst Monday night at Mariner defeated Golden Gate.

Alyssa Langdale tossed a shutout until the seventh inning when Golden Gate scored its lone run. Langdale struck out 12 batters to record her sixth win.

The Tritons (6-4) host Ida Baker Tuesday night.
