Gators survive Raiders 6-5

Nicholas Rodriguez cracked a leadoff home run in the second inning to ignite Island Coast to a 6-5 victory Friday at Riverdale.

F.T. Corso pitched five innings, allowing one earned run on one hit and struck out five to earn his third win for the Gators. Devin Sirianni contributed two hits.

"We did the small things tonight, getting five of our runs in the early innings that way," said Gators coach Clint Montgomery. "We played with a lot of intensity before we went flat in the fourth inning to allow Riverdale back in the game. Kameron Gellinger came in with a great seventh inning, going 1-2-3 to get the save."

The Gators (5-3), who have won three in a row, host Fort Myers on Tuesday.

Mariner 8, North Fort Myers 0: Trevor Wren pitched six scoreless innings, allowing one hit and walking three, to help Mariner post its first shutout of the season Friday at North Fort Myers.

Tony Lopez, Frank Nater and Victor Marrero contributed two hits apiece for the Tritons (5-3), who have now won four straight games and host Naples at 5 p.m. Monday.

Cape Coral 3, Lemon Bay 1: Kyle Arjona doubled and struck out six batters to help lead Cape Coral past Lemon Bay Friday night.

Billy Pryor, Brandon Pryor, Scott Dudas and Matt Hale all contributed bast hits for the Seahawks (3-3), who play at Cypress Lake on Tuesday.

"We played well tonight," said Seahawks coach Mike Gorton. "Our pitching was stellar, our defense was stellar. We hit well in the first inning, and after that it was a cruise game until we scored in the sixth."

Ida Baker 12, South Fort Myers 1: Tanner Renegar pitched five scoreless innings, striking out eight and allowing four hits, as Ida Baker routed South Fort Myers Friday night.

Isaac Struense led the Bulldogs with three hits and two RBI while Kaleb Farmer, Skylar Holt, Zach Nason and Ryan Erhardt each contributed two hits in the 15-hit assault.

The Bulldogs (6-2) visit Mariner on Tuesday.

Softball

Ida Baker 19, South Fort Myers 0: Denia Bent went 4-for-4 with two singles, two doubles and two runs scored to help power Ida Baker to a rout of South Fort Myers Friday night.

The Bulldogs broke the game wide open with 12 runs in the fourth inning.

Bent's offensive night overshadowed the perfect game pitched by Maddy Peres (3-0), who struck out 11 of the 12 batters she faced. Peres also was 2-for-3 at the plage with a triple and scored four runs.

Brittney Benvie doubled for the Bulldogs (5-2), who visit Mariner on Tuesday.
