To the editor:
After reading the recent letter from a writer regarding the young men he witnessed at a local gun range, I was so distraught and disturbed at the possibilities that could have occurred that day.
Many many questions went through my mind: Did these young men show proof of age on entering? Did anyone question their knowledge of that handgun? Did they have to show proof of ownership? Was there a Range Officer on the premises and hopefully more than one?
I shudder to think of what could've happened had that gun misfired due to lack of knowledge of the safety catch or the weapon-holders not knowing that the weapon was jammed. Bob was so right in stating that we have to start somewhere to gain more control - we must!
