Cape duo blast Ida Baker

Cape Coral broke open a tight game with a 24-4 run in the second quarter Friday night to roll over Ida Baker 65-50.

Chase Galuzny and David Flynn shouldered the Seahawks with 26 and 21 points, respectively.

Nate Evans and Seth Woods topped the Bulldogs (1-19) with 17 and 11 points, respectively.

The Seahawks (10-12) host Dunbar while the Bulldogs host Lehigh, both Tuesday night.

Mariner 62, Lehigh 51: Lehigh kept coming at Mariner Friday night, but in the end it was the Tritons' defense that blunted the Lightning's bid for a victory. It is the Tritons' sixth win in their last seven games.

"We did a good job of executing our half-court offense," said Tritons coach James Harris, who earned his record 140th career win at the school. "They are one of the better teams in the other district, so it was like a playoff atmosphere to take us into the district tournament. We played solid defense tonight."

The Tritons were led by a trio of double-figure scorers, led by Rodney Hunter with 25 points, five assists and seven rebounds. Rick Moore connected for 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds while Cailin Nash added 11 points.

The Tritons (13-7) visit Ida Baker on Wednesday.

Fort Myers 78, Island Coast 43: Fort Myers opened a comfortable halftime lead and raced to a big victory Friday at Island Coast.

"We are not in the kind of shape we need to be in to run with a time like that," said Gators coach Greg Coleman. "Unfortunately, we had to learn that the hard way. Now we'll see how we respond to that. We did that about this time last year to turn our season around."

Wes Graddy and Mark Matthews powered the Green Wave with 17 points apiece.

Angel Inchausti and Jordan Lugo led the Gators with 18 and 14 points, respectively. Nicco Thompson contributed with 10 rebounds and Sonel Mathurin grabbed 12 boards.

The Gators (11-10, 2-2 district) play at Cape Coral on Thursday.

Boys Soccer

Cape Coral 4, Ida Baker 2: Cape High senior Ryan Hoegler scored the game-winning goal late in the second half Friday to break a 2-2 tie and help send the Seahawks to a regular season ending victory over Baker.

Filander Barahona and Oscar Trujillo scored goals for the Bulldogs (8-9-2), who host Palmetto Ridge at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the District 4A-12 Tournament.

Juan Cano, Miguel Martinez and Oscar Camacho also scored the the Seahawks (16-2-3), who have a District 3A-11 semifinal date with either Cypress Lake or Lemon Bay Wednesday night.
