Charles Henry Covey Jr., 83, of Fort Myers passed away in his home surrounded by his loved ones on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013. He was born in Plainfield, N.J., the son of Charles and Hazel Covey Sr. An Eagle Scout and a graduate of Plainfield High School; he received a BS in mechanical engineering from Newark College of Engineering in 1957.
He served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force as a navigator, bombardier and radar operator during the Korean War. He was a plant manager for Vicks Chemical; worked with Julius Wile as a vice president and plant manger. He was also the owner/chef of Track Fore Restaurant and Yankee Fisherman in Manchester, Vt. He was a longtime active member of the Cape Coral Sailing Club. He also enjoyed cooking, camping and woodworking.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Jane (Kennally).
Survivors include his son, Michael (Michele and Ellie Valentine) of Phoenix, Ariz.; and daughter, Karen (David Anderson) of Mattapoisett, Mass. He is also survived by his longtime companion, Sandy St. John of Fort Myers and her daughter, Jill (Michael) Carville and their children Alison and Evan; his sister, Dorothy Garman of Nokomis, Fla.; and brothers, Carl (Helen) Covey of Omaha, Neb., and Richard (the late Antoinette) Covey; nieces, Sharon (Andrew) Lindstrom, and their son, Logan, and Patty Covey; and nephew, Richard (Eileen) Covey, and their son, Jason.
The family would also like to thank his nurses at Hope Hospice for their thoughtful and compassionate care during his last days.
