Cape boys take third at Bradenton

Chase Galuzny and David Flynn struck for game-highs of 19 and 18 points, respectively, to carry Cape Coral to 72-47 third-place victory Saturday in the Bradenton Christian Tournament.

Galuzny represented Cape on the all-tournament team.

"We played hard and grided it out," said Seahawks coach Tom Kenna.

The Seahawks (8-7) never trailed after winning the first quarter 21-9. they play Golden Gate at 5 p.m. next Saturday in the Lee/Collier Bash at Lely High School.

North Laurel (Ky.) 48, Island Coast 45: Playing without starters Angel Inchausti and Kaleb Darrett, Island Coast was unable to snap its losing streak since winning the Mariner Christmas Tournament last weekend. The Gators dropped their third in a row Saturday in the seventh-place game of the Rock Holiday Classic in Orlando.

Jordan Lugo and Niko Thompson led the Gators with 12 points apiece with Thompson also grabbing eight rebounds. Sonel Mathurin hauled down 11 rebounds and Mark Casimir contributed four assists with five points.

The Gators (9-8) get nine days off to recuperate and regroup before traveling to Cypress Lake.

Ida Baker 68, Bishop Verot 47: Baker used the middle two quarters to open an insurmountable lead and pulled away to victory over Bishop Verot Saturday in the seventh-place game of the Topaz Division of the Queen of Palms Classic.

Hannah Del Negro pitched in a game-high 22 points to lead the Bulldogs, backed by Jessie Placher with 16 points and Brittney Benvie with 13.

The tournament host Bulldogs (10-6) host Riverdale on Jan. 8.

Palmetto Ridge 37, Oasis 30: Battling back from a 16-point halftime deficit, an Oasis comeback bid came up short Saturday morning at Lehigh in the Queen of Palms Classic.

Samantha Wood pitched in a team-high 16 points with Sarah Pickle adding 10 and Kelsie Arentsen 4.
