Cape boys notch 6th shutout win

The Cape Coral Seahawks continue to dominate opponents on the soccer field. Through 10 games, the Seahawks have posted six shutout wins, including Thursday night's 8-0 romp past Evangelical Christian.

Freshman Gianni Cognata, sophomore Jairo Alpire and senior Laz Vega each scored two goals to lead the Seahawks. Juan Cano and Christopher Iturbe each added one goal. Vega contributed a pair of assists with one each by Oscar Camacho, Elijah Vega, Cano, Christian Iturbe, Jhoan Mendez and Gerado Carizzo.

Goalkeepers Alex Collazo and Austin Lachmann combined for eight saves.

The Seahawks (8-1-1, 3-0 district) travel to District 3A-11 rival Lemon Bay on Friday.

Girls Soccer

Mariner 4, Cape Coral 0: Alex Muro-Solis struck for three goals to lead Mariner to victory Thursday night.

Heather Gillions tacked on the fourth goal for the Tritons (4-2-3), who host Fort Myers Friday night.

Boys Basketball

Bishop Verot 70, LaBelle 56: Mason Taylor and Ricky Doyle combined for 53 points to lead Bishop Verot to victory Thursday night at LaBelle.

Taylor pitched in a game-high 30 points with Doyle adding 23 for the Vikings (3-1, 2-0 district), who host Gateway Charter in a district match on Thursday.

Bishop Verot 70 - Schell 1, Fundingsland 7, Taylor 30, Williams 8, Doyle 23. Totals: 26 16-23 70.

Girls Basketball

Oasis 30, Evangelical Christian 29: Shayna Scalise sank the tying three-point shot with four seconds remaining, then made a free throw with no time on the clock to seal the one-point comeback victory for Oasis at ECS Thursday night.

The Sharks trailed by five points heading into the fourth quarter in which they outscored the Sentinels 17-11 to pull out the victory.

Jordan Westendorf led the Sharks with 11 points.
