Sarah Jane Hawkins, 89, of Cape Coral, passed away peacefully Nov. 7, 2012, under the loving care of Hope Hospice, Fort Myers. She was born in Altoona, Pa., April 27, 1923, daughter of Willard and Martha Hart. She loved and enjoyed her childhood years, growing up on the family farm with her siblings, Robert Hart (now deceased), Sidney Hart, Virginia Hart, Willard Hart and Herbert Hart. A lot of great memories as the family worked hard and had fun together. After graduation, she moved to Columbus, Ohio, where she worked at the Curtis Wright Aircraft Plant during World War II. In 1966, she made Cape Coral her home, with her husband, William H. Hawkins, and two sons, Tom and Michael Sprankel.
She was a devoted wife and mother and a friend to many, who always said "she could light up a room" and "squeeze a quarter out of a nickel." She was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church, Cape Coral, for 30 years, where she proudly served as a greeter. "Her smile was contagious."
She was an avid bowler, enjoyed the outdoors, loved gardening and everything God had created. For several years she worked at Candies Steakhouse.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Hawkins, in 1975.
She is survived by son, Tom (Etsuko) Sprankel; son, Michael (Marsha) Sprankel; granddaughter, Christina (Chris) Loring; grandson, Tommy Sprankel; and four great-grandchildren.
