Mariner gals earn first win of year

Girls soccer

Led by Holly Fritz' five goals, the Mariner High girls soccer team claimed its first win of the season Tuesday evening, dropping visiting Island Coast 8-0.

Megan Fritz, Heather Gillions and Yasmeen Saenz each scored once for the Tritons, who now stand 1-2-3 on the year. Heather Wolfe was stellar in goal for Mariner.

The Tritons return to action Thursday when the go to Cypress Lake


Mariner 0, Bishop Verot 0: The Tritons and Vikings played to a 0-0 tie in a battle Monday night at Mariner. Samantha Wolfe had four saves in goal to help preserve the tie. With the tie, Mariner stands 0-2-3 on the year.

Boys soccer

Mariner 5, Island Coast 0: The Mariner boys soccer team upped its season record to 3-1 Tuesday night with a 5-0 shutout over visiting Island Coast.

Isiah Romano had two goals to lead the way for the Tritons. Sean Gartlan, Justin Kuchle and Erick RIvera each contributed one goal in the victory.

Jacob Olmstead started in goal for the Tritons and had one save. Alex Trudillo spelled him but Island Coast made no shots on goal.

Mariner's next game is at home Thursday against Cypress Lake.
