A Cape Coral driver was improving Tuesday after being hospitalized nearly two weeks ago when a semitrailer jumped a median and collided with traffic.

Edel Dumenigo, 45, was listed in good condition at Lee Memorial Hospital.

At about 5:45 p.m. Nov. 18, Warren Gordon, 36, of Lehigh Acres, was traveling south on County Road 951 in a 2002 semitrailer when he reportedly failed to maintain control of the trailer due to slow traffic.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, Gordon braked to avoid a collision, and the trailer crossed the median and entered the northbound lanes of CR 951. Three vehicles headed north hit the semitrailer.

A 2002 Chevy F350 traveling in the inside lane, driven by Dumenigo, and a 2011 Ford F350 traveling in the center lane, driven by Floyd Early Lilly, 48, of Naples, were unable to stop and collided headfirst into the trailer's side.

A 1995 Lexus traveling in the outside lane, driven by John Michael Ranieri, 82, of Marco Island, was also unable to stop and struck semitrailer's cab.

Dumenigo was taken to the hospital in critical condition, along with a passenger. Joaquin Dumenigo, 68, of Fort Lauderdale, sustained serious injuries in the accident and was transported, according to the report.

As of Tuesday, Dumenigo had been treated and released.

Lilly and Ranieri reportedly sustained minor injuries, but they were not transported to a hospital. Ranieri's passenger, John D. Ranieri, 52, of Marco Island, also reported sustaining minor injuries but was not transported.

Neither Gordon nor his passenger, Steve Walker, 31, of Fort Myers, were injured.

The FHP cited Gordon for careless driving, according to the report.

The accident was reportedly not alcohol related.
