Irmgard Rose Rummel Vogentanz, 80, beloved mother and grandmother, died Sept. 13, 2012, following a stroke. Born in Solingen-Ohligs, Germany, Aug. 19, 1932, she come to America April 1, 1954, and married her sweetheart, Peter George Vogentanz of the U.S. Army, two days later.
As an Army wife she traveled the U.S. and Europe extensively. She experienced life to the fullest. She loved the outdoors and shared this love with her children and grandchildren. Never one to run from a challenge, she backpacked in the Smoky Mountains and the Grand Canyon, went white water rafting, cross country bicycle riding and rappelling off a 60-foot rock face among her many adventures.
She moved to Cape Coral in 1966, moving to Fort Myers in 2001. She worked for the Department of Revenue for 10 years before joining the Del Prado / Chiquita Animal hospital staff.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Sept. 22, at 2 p.m., at Cape Christian Fellowship, 2110 Chiquita Blvd., South, Cape Coral.
She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Mascolo and Barbera Vogentanz; and grandsons, Shane Kepley and Erich Kepley; as well as two sisters, Marga Rummel and Gisela Rummel-Vogentanz.
She is preceded in death by Peter Vogentanz, and her grandson, Christopher Ray Kepley.
