Beth Margaret Curasco, 54, of Cape Coral, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012. She was born on Jan. 18, 1958, in Jersey City, N.J., to Lillian and Sterling Van Houten.
She earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from William Paterson University and a master's degree in education from Florida Gulf Coast University. She was a beloved first-grade teacher with the Lee County Public School District for over 20 years, including the last 19 at Hancock Creek Elementary. Her passion for teaching and love for her students made her one of the most requested teachers by pupils and parents alike.
She was the definition of a devoted family woman and loyal friend, one who always put others before herself. She was a devout Christian who was an active member of her church. She treasured traveling with her loving husband of 33 years, Perry. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed cooking, the beach and spending quality time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband and love of her life, Perry Curasco; her adoring children, Stephen (Jane) Curasco and Heather (Kenneth) Harbour; her beloved grandchildren, Cole Harbour and Nina Curasco; mother, Lillian Van Houten; mother-in-law, Josephine Curasco; sister, Carol (Everitt) Robbins; brother, Sterling Boyd Van Houten; niece, Chris (Bob) Headley; and nephews, Scott (Christine) Robbins and Tommy (Gloria) Van Houten; and her many cherished and loyal friends, as well as her precious cat, Samson.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., today, Sept. 22, at Grace Church, 13 S.E. 21st Place, Cape Coral. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made to the Gulf Coast Humane Society.
