Peter Joseph (PJ) Novosel Sr., 82, was called to be with the Lord Friday, Sept. 14, 2012. He was born April 19, 1930, in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of Marko and Anna (Millage) Novosel.
He married Wilma J. (Yankle) Novosel on May 2, 1959, and together they shared more than 53 years of marriage. He grew up in Youngstown, Ohio, graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School. He began his 40-year career in law enforcement with the Youngstown Police Department. During his tenure as a crime lab technician and forensics expert he graduated from the FBI Academy in Quantico, Va.
After 26 years, he retired from the Youngstown Police Department and accepted a position with the Monroe County Sheriff's Department in the Florida Keys. In 1984, he moved to Cape Coral where he continued his long and distinguished career by being instrumental in the development of the Cape Coral Police Department Forensics Unit and retired in 1996.

He enjoyed photography, woodworking and displayed great artistic ability. He was a lifelong member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was also a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Wilma; daughter, Dianne (Keith) Johnson of Fort Myers; son, Peter J. (Amanda) Novosel Jr. of Cape Coral; four grandchildren, Peter J. (Dana) Novosel III, Robert J. (Chloe) Hennessey, Christa Wilbor and Nicholas Novosel; and two great-grandchildren, Kaden and Kyla Novosel. Also surviving are his brother, Mark (Mary) Novosel of Youngstown, Ohio, and sister, Marilyn Vukovich of Boardman, Ohio, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Margaret Cardinale, AnnaMae Walkosak and Alice Novosel; brother, John Novosel; and niece, Mariellen Minto.
A Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 18, at Fuller Metz Funeral Home, 3740 Del Prado Blvd., S., Cape Coral (www.fullermetz.com). A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 19, at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 2628 Del Prado Blvd., S., Cape Coral.
