Lakewood Ranch, a defending state champion, won its third straight Ida Baker Bulldog Invitational golf tournament Friday at Coral Oaks Golf Course.
The Mustangs took the 18-hole title by seven strokes over Vero Beach with a team total of 8-over-par 295. They were led by Ramsey Touchberry's 73, which tied for second overall with Vero Beach's Payton Taylor. Taylor won a one-hole playoff for the No. 2 spot.
Mason Fox of Sarasota Riverview had the overall low round of 1-under-par 71, the first player in the three-year history of the invitational to break par. Riverview placed third with 311, nine strokes behind Vero Beach at 302.
The host Bulldogs, led by Anthony Myers with a 2-over 74, placed sixth in the 10-team field with a team total of 327. Mariner was 10th with 353.
Anthony Montoya shot 82 for the Bulldogs, who travel to Lemon Bay on Wednesday.
"I was not happy with sixth place," said Bulldogs coach Scott Conforte. "I though we could be under 320. We should have been 10 strokes lower on a course these guys play all the time. We just didn't get it done."
Tanner Vandemark led the Tritons with an 82 and John Inkster shot 84.
