John ‘Jack’ L. King

John "Jack" L. King, 86, a Cape Coral resident since 1989, formerly of Toledo, Ohio, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012 at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral.

He was born Dec. 3, 1925 in Toledo to John L. King Sr. and Laura Cunningham King, now deceased.

He graduated from DeVilbiss High School in 1943 and attended The University of Toledo and Owens Technical College with a degree in biochemical engineering. He was employed as a manager for Cunningham Lumber and later King Lumber, both family businesses in Toledo for many years. He later became an accomplished draftsman and was employed by Draftechs of Cape Coral, Inc. retiring three years ago. He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church where he served in the choir as both a vocalist and trumpet player. He was a lay Carmelite at St. Andrew.

He served our country during WW II in the U.S. Army and also served as a 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus. John's true passion was singing and playing jazz and blues music. He had a beautiful voice. In addition, he loved square dance calling which he did for many years in both the Toledo area and more recently the Cape Coral area.

He will be greatly missed by many.

John is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Marilyn J. King of Cape Coral; four children, Kathleen Crowley and her husband John of Palmyra, MI, Stephen King of Pensacola Beach, FL, Theresa Ginsburg and her husband Matthew of Springhill, FL, and Paula Monnett of Toledo; five step children, Michael Tillman and his wife Cathy of Toledo, Gloria Cohen of Akron, OH, Sandra McArthur and her husband Bruce of Cape Coral, Marcia Smith and her husband Matthew also of Cape Coral and Mark Tillman of Toledo; a brother, Paul M. "Mal" King and his wife Marian C. King of Cape Coral; as well as 24 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a step daughter, Debra Bellair, and a daughter-in-law, Nancy King.

Friends are invited to visit from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ansburg West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Ave. Toledo, where the Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 4227 Bellevue Rd., Toledo, OH 43613 with the Rev. Samuel Punnoor officiating. Committal services will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.

A memorial Mass in Cape Coral will be held 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Cape Coral with Father Eddie Gibbons officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Hope Hospice, 9470 Healthpark Circle, Ft. Myers, FL 33908.
